German PUMA Cougar Collectors Hunting Knife

Introduction:

The Puma Cougar collector knife, is probably one of the most elegant hunting knives ever. The "Cougar wood" knife is a real designer piece that cuts just as fine a figure in use as it does in the collector's showcase - from PUMA Solingen.

The "cougar" model was designed by Richard Hehn, one of Germany's most renowned knifemakers. For decades in the PUMA program, it has not lost its myth to this day.

The blade is made of the stainless steel DIN 1.4112 and hardened up to 57 HRC.

The construction of the knife is also a special feature: The blade and the one-piece handle manufactured in the steel investment casting process are separate elements that are joined together in a special process. For this purpose, the blade has a short flat, which is taken up by the handle through an opening and riveted firmly there. The Puma Saubart knife is a handy and short, yet very powerful knife in full-tang construction for universal use - from PUMA Solingen.

The PUMA “saubart” offers the user many advantages due to the following features:

Sandvik stainless steel 14C28N is used as blade material, which brings it to a Rockwell hardness of 60-62 HRC, which gives the knife a high cutting strength.

The new blade shape, previously tested by hunters, allows the use of the complete cutting surface. In addition, the blade back is provided with a ground phase.

With a blade length of 100 mm and a thickness of 3 mm, the knife is compact and allows practical handling. Thanks to the solid construction, the “saubart” is also very stable.

Hirschhorn was chosen for the handle formwork. Thanks to the pronounced finger grooves in combination with the strong gag made of nickel silver, this high-quality PUMA knife provides a secure grip when working with it.

When we developed our PUMA Waidwerk ergonomics had the highest priority. We teamed up with a professional hunter and a butcher to create this special blade design. We chose to use hard Sandvik 14C28N steel for the 4.330” inch (110mm) long blade because it holds the edge incredibly well. Even though the blade has a very modern design we combined it with our typical stag scales and white copper bolsters.

The "Waidbesteck" was already developed in the middle of the last century by OFM Walter Frevert and is still part of the traditional hunting equipment - from PUMA Solingen.

A brief explanation of the name of the knife: “Dagga Boy” is a term used mainly in the context of safaris in Africa to describe an old, solitary male buffalo. The word “dagga” comes from Zulu and means mud, referring to the preference of these buffalo to spend time in muddy waters to protect themselves from insects, among other things. Dagga Boys are known for their unpredictability and can be quite dangerous. Such a strong name for a powerful hunting knife!
