Kris dagger:  Craft Art Then And Now !

Daggers with this special blade form come from the Southeast Asian region. They are called Kris and are surrounded by numerous legends. The spiritual significance gave a blacksmith who made such daggers a high reputation. In 2005, UNESCO put the Kris on the list of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Mankind, and in 2008, it was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind.

More than 110 years ago, the Kris dagger was already shown in sample books of various Solingen knife manufacturers. Above all, the large Solingen trading companies, which already had their branches in Asia in the 18th century, brought this blade shape to Solingen in order to have them produced here in series. From the forging blank to the finished, mirror polished blade it required many steps and above all trained professionals who were able to complete a blade with so many contours and radii by hand. Machine grinding was not possible with this extraordinary blade contour. A list of all necessary operations for the production of blade, handle, leather sheath, including necessary assemblies results in a number of around 100 work sequences.

A production of such blades does not take place today, at least not in Solingen. In 1992, Linder had a large lot made from his own forging tools. As a result, we have been able to offer these daggers in series for more than 25 years. In addition to the well-known luxury versions of the PPR dagger, we have now released additional models with 6 different grip materials.
